SR 100 Standard Ditch Paving Failure

Drainage Ditch Rehabilitation

For a myriad of reasons, this Ditch has been rebuilt several times. Each time it was rebuilt with standard 4” thick flat work style ditch paving. The degree of fall on this one was quite a lot, and the side slopes varied in every aspect from height to slope angle to subsoil consistency. The previous work to reconstruct nearly bankrupted several contractors.

The contractor who had worked with us in the past was under contract to reconstruct this using the same 4” thick flatwork as done in the years prior.  He contacted us to inquire about the viability of using Grout Filled Fabric Revetment as a performance equivalent.

After the proper paperwork was submitted and considerations made by the authorities at the Florida Department of Transportation, our Grout Filled Fabric Revetments were approved for use in lieu of other standard styles of ditch paving.

The work in this ditch was completed in a week, everything except for the sod. We installed a 4-inch thick 8” Filter Point Mat, anchored in deep on the upstream end and with a 3-foot overlapping of the existing ditch pavement on the downstream end.

The 8” Filter Point style GFFR has built-in water filtration points sufficient to the task of relieving all the groundwater, which in prior years had worked to heave the flatwork ditch pavement. The Grout Filled Fabric Revetment which was installed has substantial turn downs at the top of the slopes which prevents surface sheet flow out of the adjoining field from undermining the structure.
